Poem For Jessica Care Moore

I see a shadow coming through

She has her mama's eyes but her father's guns

I am convinced that she is the black statue of liberty

Because black women rock and

Because her alphabet verses the ghetto

mimicking bullets

Which is why I'm seeing sunlight through bullet holes

Screaming we want our bodies back

Because the words don't fit in her mouth

Making us feel the wrath of Detroit

And of the rest of us....

Peaceful Words

I can read between metaphors using metaphors to read it while I write it A gift which brings peace Or a piece of understanding Or again, peace from knowledge From experience From wisdom From freedom..

Stitches of my heart

Stitches of my Heart Do you know how to sow If a woman can do a quick weave I don't see why not Or a surgeon getting ready for operation Or a woman who just had a c- section Hey, snitches get stitches
