Controlled by his strings

Strings attached mean a bridge

And a trust is required

With the right man leading

Without ego, without envy

The confidence that I can do it

But a guidance is required

And Holding Strings isn't always puppetmastering

Isn't the control we as women seem to fear

My femininity is safe with this type of masculinity

Imagine a black woman slave's feelings

When white men snatched her black man away

Strings forcefully cut from home

From Name, from God, from her

From me

And we have the nerve to think the black man now is controlling

We as black women get the Reputation of the Angry black woman

But no one says why the anger is there in the first place

Here's why....

You were taken from me

And I don't recognize you anymore

I don't even see myself in you anymore

I don't see our children before they were programmed into whiteness

I'm angry but not at you

I'm angry at myself

I've read and heard stories about african warrior women

And I have the nerve to allow myself to dye my hair blonde

Wear revealing clothing

Disrespect you in every way possible

Instead of protecting you in every way possible

Just like you would protect me in every way possible

You see, you're not the only one with a role

And you're not the only one controlled

You're not the only one that lost control

The mindsets now isn't normal

So when a man, a black man is holding my Strings like this

I can feel his integrity

And I honor him for that

Strings like this is a bridge

And I'm crossing it
